Flake Epoxy in Los Angeles.

A broadcast-flake system. Color chips (1/4 inch typical, 1/2 inch on premium) get broadcast into wet epoxy at saturation, scraped flat the next day, and sealed with polyaspartic. Slip-resistant by design, textured to the touch, hides every footprint.

What flake epoxy actually is.

Common in residential garages.

A broadcast-flake system. Color chips (1/4 inch typical, 1/2 inch on premium) get broadcast into wet epoxy at saturation, scraped flat the next day, and sealed with polyaspartic. Slip-resistant by design, textured to the touch, hides every footprint.

The system

  • Pre-blended color packs or custom blends
  • Slip-rated by design (texture provides traction without grit additives)
  • Hides minor crack lines through the flake field
  • Common in pet rooms, mudrooms, basement workshops

What it costs

Set by square footage, the prep the slab needs, and the flake blend and topcoat you choose. We walk the floor and put a real number on it.

How long it takes

Two to three working days for a typical garage. Same-day broadcast, next-day scrape, third-day topcoat.

How long it lasts

Engineered for lifetime adhesion. Topcoat refresh at 10-15 years; flake layer is permanent.

Where this fits

Residential garages, mudrooms, pet rooms, workshops, light commercial. Anywhere slip resistance matters and the look needs to forgive use.

On-site walkthrough and slab inspection

01 Walkthrough

Owner on site. Moisture test of the slab. Photos of existing cracks. Palette options walked in person. Proposal in your inbox next morning.

Diamond-ground substrate ready for resin

02 Diamond grind

Surface prep to CSP-3 profile, HEPA vacuum, rapid-set polyurea on crack lines, re-grind. Where every floor lives or dies.

Flake Epoxy pour day in progress

03 Pour

Resin mixed on site, broadcast or swirled to match the system. Signature work happens here. Notched-trowel finish before the working window closes.

Polyaspartic topcoat applied over a cured pour

04 Topcoat

Polyaspartic or polyurethane within the resin chemical window. Walkable 24 hours, full traffic 72 hours. Written job spec before we leave.

Where we install flake epoxy.

We pour flake epoxy across all of our service areas: Los Angeles County, Orange County, the Inland Empire, San Diego County, Ventura County, Kern County, and Santa Barbara County. The system itself is the same across cities. Substrate prep adjusts to local concrete age and moisture conditions.

Three rules we do not break on a flake epoxy install.

When a coating fails early, prep is almost always where it went wrong. So prep day is where we refuse to bargain, no matter the size of the budget. The rules below hold on every install.

Calcium chloride moisture meter test on a residential slab

01. Calibrated moisture testing

Calcium chloride or relative-humidity sleeve test on every flake epoxy substrate before we order resin. If the vapor emission rate is above manufacturer spec, we apply a moisture-mitigation primer at our cost rather than gamble on the topcoat bond. Skipping this is the most common cause of the failed coatings we get called in to re-prep.

Diamond-ground concrete substrate ready for resin

02. Diamond grind to spec

CSP-3 minimum for residential flake epoxy, CSP-4 for high-build commercial. Shot blasting and acid etching are cheaper shortcuts that fail the resin manufacturer’s adhesion spec. We grind, HEPA-vacuum, polyurea-fill every visible crack, and re-grind. The prep day is the day the floor lives or fails.

Finished metallic epoxy floor with written job spec

03. Spec sheet with the resin maker named

Every flake epoxy proposal we write names the resin manufacturer, the topcoat product, the substrate prep depth, the cure window, and the maintenance schedule. If a competitor’s proposal does not name these, you are buying on faith, not specs. Full liability and workers’ comp on every job.

Questions before the call.

What does flake epoxy cost in Los Angeles?

Residential pricing for flake epoxy in the Los Angeles market typically runs between the ranges quoted on our service pages, with the exact number determined by substrate condition, finish system, and square footage. Commercial pricing is always project-specific.

You get one fixed number, in writing, before any work starts. We set it after a free on-site walkthrough of about 30 minutes and email the proposal the next morning, so nothing gets added halfway through the pour.

How long does flake epoxy take to install?

A residential pour usually has us on site for two to three working days. The walkthrough tells us where your floor falls, since a larger home or a commercial space can stretch the job to anywhere from four to fifteen days depending on spec, substrate and footage.

The polyaspartic topcoat cures fast, so the wait after we finish is short: one day before foot traffic, three days before anything on wheels.

How long will my flake epoxy last?

Properly installed resinous floor systems are not cosmetic. They are a chemical bond to the substrate. Residential floors are engineered for lifetime adhesion to the slab.

On a commercial floor, the spec is set by the traffic and the chemicals the floor will see, and the resin layer typically lasts 10 to 25 years. At home, a heavy-use floor may want a fresh polyaspartic topcoat somewhere between years 8 and 12, with the base staying bonded underneath.

Can you match a specific color?

Yes. Metallic epoxy pigments mix to any color in the spectrum. We have poured deep teal, copper-on-bronze, matte slate, mother-of-pearl, ocean blue with charcoal veining, and just-black.

For decorative concrete there are two routes: integral color mixed in during the pour, or a topical stain once the slab has cured. Coatings give you more room. Flake comes in pre-blended packs or any custom blend, and quartz offers 14 standard colors plus custom mixes.

How does the install process actually work?

The heaviest work lands on day two, when we diamond-grind the slab to a CSP-3 profile and repair the cracks. That follows a first day spent on the walkthrough and a moisture test. Day three is the pour and broadcast, along with any signature work, and day four is the polyaspartic topcoat. A final inspection with you and a written job spec close it out.

What happens after the floor is poured?

You deal with the same people after the pour that you dealt with before it. The owner walks every job, so if something about the finish looks off to you, that is who you talk to. The resin bonded to your slab stays where it is; the topcoat is the only layer that ever needs attention.

Day to day, the floor maintains with a damp mop. No waxing, no sealing, no annual service appointment. The system is engineered to live without us.

What makes Concrete 2 Coatings different from other contractors?

The person who owns the company walks your job and is on site for every prep day. We are an independent shop, not a franchise, with 20 years of trade experience and training across coatings, decorative concrete and structural slabs. And we hold the line on prep: a CSP-3 diamond grind, a HEPA vacuum pass, then a second grind.
