Concrete Grinding in Los Angeles.

Mechanical diamond grinding of the slab – to flatten high spots, knock down trip-edge lippage, strip old paint or mastic, expose aggregate, or open a profile for a coating. Run with HEPA-vacuum dust containment, no airborne silica. This is the cut, not the finish.

What concrete grinding actually is.

Common in prepping a slab for coating or polish.

Mechanical diamond grinding of the slab – to flatten high spots, knock down trip-edge lippage, strip old paint or mastic, expose aggregate, or open a profile for a coating. Run with HEPA-vacuum dust containment, no airborne silica. This is the cut, not the finish.

The system

  • Diamond grind to a flat plane or a CSP-1 through CSP-4 profile on spec
  • HEPA-rated vacuum shroud on every grinder – no silica dust
  • Strips old coatings, paint, glue, and thinset down to sound concrete
  • Knocks down slab lippage and trip edges at control joints

What it costs

Depends on how much material has to come off and how big the floor is. Stripping old coating or mastic takes more passes than opening a bare slab. We price it after we see what is down there.

How long it takes

One to two working days for a typical residential or light-commercial floor.

How long it lasts

The grind itself is permanent. What goes on top decides how long the surface lasts.

Where this fits

Prepping a slab for coating or polish, removing a failed previous finish, leveling a poured slab, exposing aggregate ahead of a sealer.

On-site walkthrough and slab inspection

01 Walkthrough

Owner on site. Moisture test of the slab. Photos of existing cracks. Palette options walked in person. Proposal in your inbox next morning.

Diamond-ground substrate ready for resin

02 Diamond grind

Surface prep to CSP-3 profile, HEPA vacuum, rapid-set polyurea on crack lines, re-grind. Where every floor lives or dies.

Concrete Grinding pour day in progress

03 Pour

Resin mixed on site, broadcast or swirled to match the system. Signature work happens here. Notched-trowel finish before the working window closes.

Polyaspartic topcoat applied over a cured pour

04 Topcoat

Polyaspartic or polyurethane within the resin chemical window. Walkable 24 hours, full traffic 72 hours. Written job spec before we leave.

Where we install concrete grinding.

We pour concrete grinding across all of our service areas: Los Angeles County, Orange County, the Inland Empire, San Diego County, Ventura County, Kern County, and Santa Barbara County. The system itself is the same across cities. Substrate prep adjusts to local concrete age and moisture conditions.

Three rules we do not break on a concrete grinding install.

When a coating fails early, prep is almost always where it went wrong. So prep day is where we refuse to bargain, no matter the size of the budget. The rules below hold on every install.

Calcium chloride moisture meter test on a residential slab

01. Calibrated moisture testing

Calcium chloride or relative-humidity sleeve test on every concrete grinding substrate before we order resin. If the vapor emission rate is above manufacturer spec, we apply a moisture-mitigation primer at our cost rather than gamble on the topcoat bond. Skipping this is the most common cause of the failed coatings we get called in to re-prep.

Diamond-ground concrete substrate ready for resin

02. Diamond grind to spec

CSP-3 minimum for residential concrete grinding, CSP-4 for high-build commercial. Shot blasting and acid etching are cheaper shortcuts that fail the resin manufacturer’s adhesion spec. We grind, HEPA-vacuum, polyurea-fill every visible crack, and re-grind. The prep day is the day the floor lives or fails.

Finished metallic epoxy floor with written job spec

03. Spec sheet with the resin maker named

Every concrete grinding proposal we write names the resin manufacturer, the topcoat product, the substrate prep depth, the cure window, and the maintenance schedule. If a competitor’s proposal does not name these, you are buying on faith, not specs. Full liability and workers’ comp on every job.

Questions before the call.

What does concrete grinding cost in Los Angeles?

Residential pricing for concrete grinding in the Los Angeles market typically runs between the ranges quoted on our service pages, with the exact number determined by substrate condition, finish system, and square footage. Commercial pricing is always project-specific.

Every price we give comes after we have seen the slab. We come out, spend about 30 minutes on a free walkthrough, and send a fixed-price proposal the following morning. Nothing gets added by change order once the work starts.

How long does concrete grinding take to install?

A residential pour usually has us on site for two to three working days. The walkthrough tells us where your floor falls, since a larger home or a commercial space can stretch the job to anywhere from four to fifteen days depending on spec, substrate and footage.

The polyaspartic topcoat cures fast, so the wait after we finish is short: one day before foot traffic, three days before anything on wheels.

How long will my concrete grinding last?

Installed right, the resin locks to the slab through a chemical bond. Residential systems are designed for that bond to hold for the life of the floor.

There are two answers, depending on the floor. Residential: the base resin holds, and the topcoat may need a refresh at 8 to 12 years with heavy use. Commercial: we spec the system to the traffic and chemistry it will face, and the resin layer typically lasts 10 to 25 years.

Can you match a specific color?

Yes. Metallic epoxy pigments mix to any color in the spectrum. We have poured deep teal, copper-on-bronze, matte slate, mother-of-pearl, ocean blue with charcoal veining, and just-black.

Usually, yes. Custom blends on flake floors are unlimited, and quartz can be mixed custom beyond its 14 standard colors. If the color needs to live in the concrete itself, we add it integrally while pouring; if it goes on top, it is a topical stain after cure.

How does the install process actually work?

The heaviest work lands on day two, when we diamond-grind the slab to a CSP-3 profile and repair the cracks. That follows a first day spent on the walkthrough and a moisture test. Day three is the pour and broadcast, along with any signature work, and day four is the polyaspartic topcoat. A final inspection with you and a written job spec close it out.

What happens after the floor is poured?

We schedule a check-in call at the three-year mark to look at the floor and the topcoat. Most floors need nothing at that point; a topcoat refresh usually comes years later, and we schedule it when the gloss actually fades. The base resin is bonded to the substrate for the life of the floor.

Once we are packed up, you should not need us for routine care. Damp-mop it when it looks dirty. Skip the waxes and sealers sold for bare concrete; this floor has no use for them.

What makes Concrete 2 Coatings different from other contractors?

The person who owns the company walks your job and is on site for every prep day. We are an independent shop, not a franchise, with 20 years of trade experience and training across coatings, decorative concrete and structural slabs. And we hold the line on prep: a CSP-3 diamond grind, a HEPA vacuum pass, then a second grind.
