One-day polyaspartic floors for LA businesses that cannot close

Most resinous floor systems require a business to close for the better part of a week. A traditional high-build epoxy needs a prep day, a pour day, and a multi-day cure before traffic returns. What makes polyaspartic cure so fast

Polyaspartic is a polyurea-class resin, chemically different from epoxy. A standard polyaspartic coat is touch-dry within an hour or two and walkable within a few hours of the final coat.

That speed is what lets us compress an entire floor system into one day. We grind in the morning, pour the build coats through midday, and lay the final topcoat in the afternoon. By evening the floor is walkable, and by the next morning it is ready for the foot traffic of a normal business day. A standard epoxy simply cannot be rushed this way without compromising the cure.

Cold cure: why it works in a walk-in cooler

Epoxy chemistry stalls in the cold. Below roughly 50°F, an epoxy resin’s cure slows dramatically or stops, which makes it a poor choice for refrigerated spaces. A restaurant’s walk-in cooler, a clinic’s cold storage, a grocer’s refrigerated back room all sit in temperature ranges where epoxy struggles.

Polyaspartic cures cold. The reaction proceeds at temperatures well below where epoxy gives up, which is why we use it for walk-in coolers and refrigerated rooms across LA food-service and healthcare clients. The floor cures and bonds properly even in a 38°F walk-in, something epoxy cannot reliably do.

UV-stable: it does not yellow

Bisphenol-A epoxy ambers and yellows under UV exposure. For an interior back room with no windows, that may not matter. For an LA business with storefront glass, skylights, or a roll-up door that stays open, it matters a great deal. A white epoxy floor near sunlight turns a dingy yellow within a couple of years.

Aliphatic polyaspartic is UV-stable. It stays color-true under direct and indirect sunlight for the life of the coating. For a sunlit retail floor, a brewery with garage doors, or any LA space where natural light hits the surface, that color stability is a real advantage on top of the speed.

The single-day install, hour by hour

Here is what a one-day polyaspartic install actually looks like in a small LA commercial space.

  • Early morning: the crew arrives, moves and protects what cannot be cleared, and diamond-grinds the slab to a CSP-2 or CSP-3 profile with HEPA-vacuumed dust containment. Cracks get chased and filled with rapid-set polyurea and ground flush.
  • Late morning: substrate is vacuumed and cleaned, and the pigmented or clear base coat goes down. In a flake or quartz system, the broadcast happens into the wet base coat now.
  • Early afternoon: loose broadcast (if any) is scraped, and the first polyaspartic build coat is applied.
  • Late afternoon: the final UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat goes down, with slip grit broadcast into it where the space needs traction.
  • Evening: the floor is walkable. The crew cleans up and is gone.
  • Next morning: you open. Light foot traffic, carts, and most furniture are fine. Heavy rolling loads wait the full 72-hour window.

For most small restaurants, shops, and clinics, that means closing for a single day, often a Sunday or a slow Monday, and reopening on a brand-new floor the very next day.

Polyaspartic is not the answer to every commercial floor, and we will tell you when it is not. For the highest-impact industrial floors, a forklift-heavy warehouse or a manufacturing line with dropped tooling and thermal shock, a thicker high-build quartz epoxy carries more impact mass and may be the better long-term value despite the longer cure. Polyaspartic films are thinner than full-build epoxy, which is part of how they cure so fast, and that thinness gives up some impact resistance.

The honest framing: if a closed day costs your business real money and the floor sees foot traffic and carts rather than forklifts, polyaspartic is almost certainly right. If the floor takes industrial abuse and you can schedule a shutdown, a thicker epoxy system may serve better. When the fast cure is worth the premium over epoxy

Per square foot of installed coating, polyaspartic carries a premium over a standard epoxy system. The resin costs more, the working time is shorter so the crew has to move faster and more deliberately, and the cold-cure and UV-stable chemistry are simply more expensive inputs. So the honest question is not whether polyaspartic is the better material in the abstract. It is whether the fast cure earns back that premium for your specific business.

The math is straightforward once you put a number on a closed day. A small LA restaurant doing several thousand dollars a day loses that revenue for every day the dining room or kitchen sits dark.
